The Official UK Chart Company is looking at ways of making singles downloaded from the Internet count towards the track's position in the singles chart.
The organisation is currently working on a standalone list although plans are reportedly underway to use the online information in the singles chart itself.
A spokesperson for the Official UK Chart Company said that it is important that the singles chart continues to be relevant and online downloads are expected to be included in official charts in approximately 18 months.
